Twisted Mesquite Performance Horses specializes in starting colts with a reined cowhorse foundation. Our training focuses on creating a soft, willing horse that will learn how to give and move his 5 major body parts. This gives us the ability to guide that horse into the exact position needed whether be for cutting, fence work, or rein work. We focus on the 2-year-old year of the horse with the goal of producing a horse that, after coming through our program, can be transitioned to the show barn of your choice with that same horse going on to be a champion 3-year-old. We have chosen to position ourselves as a two-year-old program to be able to focus on all our two-year-olds every day of the week. We understand how important the 2-year-old year is and have built the program to set our 2-year-olds up for success.
Our Program consists of: Exceptional Service, Care and Training.

90-day Foundation
This 90-day foundation program is designed to specifically to build a young horse's confidence and preparing him to be in a good, willing frame of mind. This is the foundation that has to be built so that we can add the cool maneuvers we all love to see in a reined cow horse. We start our horses with an Indepth groundwork program that prepares the horses mind and body to be ridden. We then will start him undersaddle and teach him the basics of moving his 5 major body parts. This provides a horse that is "green" but is in a good frame of mind to move on into the next stage of training.
Our Program is an all-inclusive program which includes:
-Training
-Board
-Weekly Updates
-All feed (Alfalfa cubes, Grass Hay, Bluebonnet Omega Force, & Loose White Salt)
-Daily Care & Grooming
-Farrier trims every 5 weeks
-Dental before being rode in a snaffle bit.
$2000 Per Month
Once a horse has graduated from our 90-day program. We will continue on with their education by advancing their use of the major body parts and getting them softer in the snaffle. Colts will begin to be started on the flag and cattle. By the end of this period, we want to have the colts where they are pretty quiet, and responsive to us and have a good understanding of leg position and be able to really guide them around well.

$1850 Per Month with the 6-month commitment.
Once the horse has come through the full 6-month program, we will continue on with his training. Our goal is to provide a colt that can go on to the show barn of your choice and be a great fit into their program. Where as soon as they get the horse in they are able to start building him into the 3-year-old show horse instead of having to fight with him. This comes from consistent training, and care that matures the horse and givse him the experience he needs in the reinwork, fencework, and cutting.
This full years' worth of training would be great for anyone, whether they intend to take the horse on and show him or to take him back to the ranch and use him. We have had horses go on into the show pen, roping pen, and the ranch/feedlot world.

Frequently Asked Questions
How many days per week will my horse be trained?
We will work/train on your horse 5 days a week. Monday through Friday horses have individual one on one time with our head trainer (Tarron Null). Saturday and Sundays we focus on deep cleaning on the horses, stalls and barns so our next week is set up for success.
Can I come out and see my horse while they are in training? Can I get lessons on them?
Yes! We highly encourage you to be involved in the training of your horse. We will send you weekly updates on your horse's progress and you are more than welcome to come visit at any time throughout the program. We also offer FREE lessons when your horse is in training with us in or 6- and 12-month programs. You can come and learn how to work with your horse, learn all the exercises your horse has been taught, and how to cue your horse. We are here to serve you and want you to be involved in the process as much as you'd like to be.
Yes! We are firm believers in supervised turn out time for Colts in training. This allows them to get out and move freely, enjoy being outside and snacking on green grass, and enjoying being a horse.
Can I come out and view the facility and see horses that are currently in training before committing to sending mine?
Yes! We would love to meet in person and give you a private tour of our facility. We currently offer free lessons (See our lesson page) where this would be a great time to talk about your future goals with your horse/horses and get to know us better! We ask that you do contact us beforehand so we can get you on our schedule.
